Christine

Christine - s.jpg

Christine is a classic tale about a boy and his car… except the car turns out to be a possessive magical killing machine. When Dennis sees his best friend Arnie buy a broken down car, he can instantly sense that something about the car is off. To Arnie though? Christine is perfect. But, his obsession with her sets him down a dark path, and Dennis must make a decision… destroy Christine, or lose Arnie forever.

There are a lot of themes here common to King’s books… childhood, lose of innocence, bullies, etc. And like a lot of King’s books, Christine is a sloooow burn! But, I really liked the time spent getting to know these characters on a deep and personal level. Watching Arnie change, through Dennis’s eyes, was fascinating.

King does such a great job with tension in this story. From the very first page we know where things are going, and it just builds and builds. And as for Christine herself, what a fun, cool, creepy villain! Her journey from beat-up old car to killing machine was so much fun. Only King could take a story about an evil car, and turn it into a masterpiece.
